This weekend, Historic Melrose, Inc. brought back the Bellamy Road Show, after a long hiatus, with some new twists. Held at the Homemakers Club, the event was a joyful gathering of community members eager to explore the hidden stories behind their cherished heirlooms or lucky finds. Over 25 unique items were informally appraised by Art and Carol Adkins of Auctions by Adkins, making for an engaging afternoon filled with history and connection.
The room was alive with anticipation as attendees presented their treasures. Some of the items we saw were an antique handmade baby doll quilt, a timeless Cartier piece, a mysterious poison ring, some great pieces of art, and a nursing cape from the Alachua General Hospital, preserved from the 1950s/1960s, along with a collection of nursing pins. Many items included a story, which we learned, that human connection, can make a piece that much more valuable.
The Bellamy Road Show was a resounding success, drawing a full house. It reminded us all of the enduring value of preserving and sharing our past, not just for its monetary worth but for the priceless memories and meaning it holds.
Historic Melrose, Inc. is proud to have reignited this tradition and is excited about continuing to host this event in the future. Thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and shared your stories—you made this event truly unforgettable.
